Deputy Director of Payroll ensures the payroll function supports the needs of the university, assumes the responsibility of payroll processing for monthly and biweekly payroll periods, addressing payroll inquiry and tax issues accordingly. They are well versed in tax and GL reconciliation, as well as with process documentation and payroll testing within the Workday environment, and prioritize data and system analytics.
Work Interactions Reporting to the Director of Payroll, the
Deputy Director is a team player within Payroll Services, providing a full range of support to the University community. They ensure timely and accurate payments to all employees by means of a more analytical approach; maintain familiarity with all aspects of payroll responsibilities, as well as federal, state, local legislation, IRS regulation and the Workday system; and provide accurate information and appropriate advice for prompt payments to employees, key data without error, and interact with staff throughout the University community to ensure employees are paid timely.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of Workday payroll and HCM experience - including full cycle payroll processing experience within the Workday system, from beginning to settlement
- Payroll tax experience (5+ years)
- Ability to reconcile quarter and year to date W2 and W2c information
- Ability to resolve payment issues that may arise, and to communicate as appropriate with various federal, state and local government agencies, attorneys and banks
- Ability to incorporate an analytical approach to the payroll function
Preferred qualificationCertified Payroll Professional (CPP)
