SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Director of Leadership and Legacy Giving is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive and strategic cultivation and solicitation plans for gift prospects, including planned and deferred gifts at Greenhill School. The Director plays a critical role in the overarching strategies and success of capital and endowment campaigns and planned giving at the School, in addition to ongoing donor activities including identification, cultivation, and stewardship.
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The school seeks an outstanding person whose duties comprise:
Prospect Management, Cultivation and Solicitation and Donor Recognition
Qualify and manage a portfolio of philanthropic prospects, developing individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies through personal visits and strategic communication. The target giving range for this role includes, but is not limited to, gifts of $25,000 and above, with a focus on multi-year commitments that support the school’s capital priorities and long-term advancement goals.
Enter, maintain, and manage constituent record opportunities, actions, and relevant documentation in a timely and complete manner in Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT.
Supports the overall long-term financial strength and support of the School by visiting with donors and prospective donors about a variety of gift possibilities, particularly deferred and planned gifts.
Enhances donor gift planning and giving by remaining current in areas of gift possibilities available and the current laws and regulations governing such gifts.
Using industry standards, gather, analyze, interpret, and present prospect information so that the School can determine the prospect’s interests and likelihood to give and engage the prospect in a meaningful way.
Participates in regular prospect review and strategy meetings in collaboration and coordination with the Chief Development Officer, Director of Annual Giving and Major Gifts, Director of Alumni relations, and other staff team members.
Develops personalized strategies for the entire donor life cycle for key initiatives and special campaigns, as needed. Engage participation of School leadership, faculty, and volunteers, as needed.
Collaborates with Chief Development Officer and Advancement team on implementation of donor recognition plans.
Assists with preparation of proposals to corporate and foundation prospects. Grant writing experience is a plus.
Strategic Event Planning
In collaboration with the CDO and relevant school departments, plan and implement events that showcase campaign plans and programs and provide cultivation opportunities for donors gift prospects.
For these strategic events, manage post-event donor cultivation and solicitation process for Advancement Team, including working with Advancement Services to ensure relevant event-related data is added in a timely and complete manner in Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT.
Collaborate effectively with other Advancement staff regarding traditional events where gift prospects may be in attendance or involved to ensure coordinated prospect management.
Planned Giving Program Management
Work with CDO to further develop the planned giving program at the School.
Build and nurture relationships with planned giving donors through personalized and group (ie. Fulton Society member recognition) annual stewardship.
Support the overall long-term financial strength and support of the School by visiting with current donors and prospective planned giving donors about a variety of gift possibilities, particularly deferred and planned gifts.
Plan and implement a luncheon every other year for planned giving (Fulton Society) members.
Work with the Advancement Services team to identify, cultivate, and solicit planned giving prospects.
In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, develop content for communications and ensure that publications and the website accurately reflect the planned giving program and Fulton Society members.
Collaborate with Advancement Services to document all bequest intentions and endowment letters of intent in Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT.
Work with professional advisors, including estate planning attorneys, wealth advisors, and CPAs, community foundations, family members, bank officers and trust/will executors to obtain planned gifts and carry out donor intent.
Enhance donor gift planning and giving by remaining current in areas of gift possibilities available and the current laws and regulations governing such gifts.
Campaign Communications and Donor Recognition
Work with CDO and Marketing and Communications team to oversee, maintain, and produce printed collateral, print and digital publications, and/or digital materials to support campaign effort and other donor relations needs. This may include keeping an accurate inventory of printed items.
Work with Advancement Team and Marketing and Communications team to ensure publications and website accurately reflect donor participation and recognition preferences.
Maintain and manage campaign-related naming opportunities to ensure named spaces are held and assigned accurately.
Update campaign acknowledgement letters annually, or as needed.
Volunteer Management
Work with key volunteers to determine the most effective strategies for gift solicitations.
Support and advise volunteer event hosts, ensuring a meaningful hosting experience alongside a successful event.
Support the Development Committee, Campaign Steering Committee, and Board of Trustees, as necessary.
Event Support
Support Advancement Team-organized events, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate:
Undergraduate degree required; masters preferred. Five years philanthropy/development work experience required. Independent school or higher education experience preferred.
Ability to understand the needs and interests of donors, as well as the history and culture of Greenhill School, to develop relationships effectively.
Ability to articulate the case for support so that gift prospects understand the school's mission and goals and secure gifts of at least $25,000.
Interest in all aspects of school life and dedication to promoting Greenhill’s fundraising priorities.
Ability to work collaboratively and develop excellent working relationships with the Advancement Team, faculty, academic leaders, administration, trustees, and other volunteers.
Understanding how the Director’s gifts portfolio's objectives integrate with other advancement objectives.
Experience in developing digital and printed content.
Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills are required.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple and diverse tasks independently.
Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM fundraising software.
