The Institute of Continuing Legal Education is the leading provider of how-to solutions for Michigan attorneys. We provide resources to lawyers to help them be successful and do the best job for their clients. Reporting to the Online Resources and Publications Manager, the Staff Lawyer position serves as a subject area expert for planning, creating legal content, and practical resources to meet the needs of the Michigan legal community. This includes print books, online books and resources, and some on-demand video seminars. You will work with other ICLE staff lawyers to develop networks of legal experts as volunteer contributors. Conduct in-depth legal research, and draft or edit practical legal resources.

As a Staff Lawyer for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, you will:
45% - Develop new content and educational offerings:
- Develop a set of subject area legal resources, educational materials, or events for Michigan lawyers
- Conduct in-depth legal research and plan, draft, and edit legal resources or events
- Plan educational materials including video modules, interactive activities, and exercises for self-testing educational content
30% - Serve as subject area specialist for the creation and development of legal education content and services:
- Demonstrate ability to keep current on legal development and practice updates in assigned subject areas.
- Cultivate legal content with a network of lawyers, contributors, ICLE customers, online communities, and State Bar Section leaders.
- Attend State Bar section and other professional meetings to share information with other ICLE staff.
- Participate in ICLE online communities and other social media groups
- Conduct customer needs assessments
- Propose new products, events and services to meet customer needs.
- Participate in periodic team planning sessions and retreats
10% - Meet defined ICLE business goals and strategic plans:
- Develop recruitment and working relationships with volunteer contributors and legal experts
- Work toward the achievement of recruiting goals and projects that meet ICLE's goal of greater diversity across volunteer contributors and customers
- Identify primary target audiences for content and develop marketing messages
- Meet marketing, customer and contributor goals
- Participate in monitoring and meeting revenue and expense goals
10% - Participate in ICLE teams and project groups:
- Be an active and engaged participant in ICLE teams and project groups to achieve process improvements and implement programs within ICLE's strategy
5% - Other tasks as assigned
Education and Work Experience:
Required:
- Juris Doctorate degree; graduated in top third of law school class
- Membership in the Michigan State Bar Association (licensed to practice law)
- 3-5 years of law practice experience.
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Proficiency in use of spreadsheets (can maintain complex spreadsheets) and familiarity with database software
- Able to travel to seminar and meeting locations in Michigan. Some evening and weekend meetings
- Pass a work sample exercise administered by ICLE
- Experience in Employment Law and Worker's Compensation helpful
- Can apply best practices for instructional design to educational materials
- Project management or related experience
