Position Summary
The Office for Student Conduct & Community Standards is seeking applicants for a position responsible for working within the student conduct system and administration at Washington University.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Hear, investigate and rule upon complaints of violation of the University Student Conduct Code and impose sanctions as necessary. These areas may include drug offenses, alcohol offenses, academic misconduct, and general student conflicts. Meet with members of the University who want to file complaints of alleged misconduct and/or violations of the University Student Conduct Code or who are charged with violations of the Code.
- Assist Associate Dean with advising students about disciplinary options for dealing with problems caused by student behavior within the University e.g., Sorority and Fraternity Standards Board, Residential Life, Athletics, and University Student Conduct Board, (as well as resources for the resolution of disputes outside the University processes e.g., mediation, restorative justice, victim assistance program, court systems).
- Design programs and publications to educate students, faculty and staff about the University Student Conduct Code and the consequences of behavior that violates the Code. Develop all other proactive promotional outreach from the Office of Student Conduct.
- Maintain and update the Student Conduct Website. Maintain and compile Clery statistics for the Office of Student Conduct. Assist in the preparation of the annual report.Â
- Oversee database management system, currently Symplicity Advocate, providing support to other campus partners who utilize Advocate to coordinate efforts with Student Conduct. Assist in the preparation of the annual report.Â
- Work with Residential Life to develop alternative dispute resolution options for students in conflict.
- Supervise student employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate or Ph.D. Degree.
- Experience working in a college or university setting.
- Demonstrated skills in working with decision-making processes and conflict resolution forums.Â
- Experience working with student discipline systems.Â
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in dealing with students, faculty, staff, parents, and attorneys.Â
- Ability to communicated and interact with students and to create an atmosphere where students feel free to ask questions and obtain assistance.Â
- Ability to work with parents on matters involving serious matters and sometimes recommending that students be suspended or expelled from the University.Â
- Ability to take initiative and solve problems.Â
- Excellent administrative/organizational skills.Â
- Flexibility, tolerance for ambiguity and patience are also necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorâ™s degree and three years of related experience.
- Some positions may require a masterâ™s degree or PhD.

Salary Range
$55,600.00 - $94,900.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
