| Description: The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) invites applications for a Presidential Frontier Faculty (PFF) tenure-track assistant or associate professor (tenured or tenure track) position to begin academic year 2025-26. The PFF program is a university wide integrated interdisciplinary hiring campaign that is overseen by central university leadership and encompasses hiring a large cohort of convergent research faculty to work on health, energy, sustainability, security and other topics. The PFF program envisions a candidate with specific expertise in legal areas related to tax law generally and its specific applicability to the energy transition and the environment, such as tax credits as a policy tool for the energy transition.
Applicants for the position must hold a J.D. degree (or the equivalent) and should demonstrate the potential for success as scholars, teachers, and future members of the UH and the Law Center’s broader community. Appointment at the rank of associate with tenure may be possible based on the experience, credentials, and expertise of the applicant.
The successful candidate will teach a section of the Law Center’s baseline course in federal income tax, teach the partnership tax course, and teach a course related to tax and the energy transition. The candidate’s tenure and/or promotion pathway is at the Law Center. The successful candidate will also be affiliated with the Law Center’s Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Center and the Law Center’s Tax Program.
Other criteria relevant to this hire include: grant acquisition experience; government service or private practice relevant to the energy transition; and other work on the energy transition in a legal, technological, or policy capacity. The position will teach three courses each academic year during the pre-tenure period. Post?tenure Law Center teaching workload is an average of ten credits per year for productive scholars. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty at other UH colleges who specialize in the energy transition.
