Position Summary

The Medicinal Chemist will manage the chemistry and drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) aspects of the ongoing and future small molecule programs, manage design, synthesis, analytical characterization, analyze ADME, PK, biological data and draw SAR conclusions, and compound disposition to appropriate testing centers for profiling the compounds for the projects.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Manages the chemistry and DMPK aspects of the ongoing and future small molecule programs.
• Manages design, synthesis, analytical characterization.
• Analyzes ADME, PK, biological data and draws SAR conclusions, and compound disposition to appropriate testing centers for profiling the compounds for the projects.
• Leads the medicinal chemistry of drug discovery projects.
• Identifies, selects, and manages the CROs for these activities and manages the ADME, PK, and tolerability studies.
• Leads regular video calls with the CROs for managing the different ongoing project related activities.
• Analyzes biological data and draws SAR conclusions to help design new set of compounds and new set of ADME, PK studies as needed for continued profiling of project compounds.
• Interacts with and updates the internal project team on the data generated and helps decide on the next course of action.
• Coordinates collection of all necessary data.
• Coordinates with IP attorney for filing patent applications.
• Coordinates agreements, purchase orders, payment of invoices, and related paper work for the projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Organic or medicinal Chemistry with a minimum of 10 years of relevant drug discovery experience in pharma/biotech industry.
• Demonstrated experience conducting the duties described for this position for drug discovery projects in the pharma/biotech industry.
• Experience in medicinal chemistry of drug discovery projects in the industry.
• Experience identifying, selecting, and managing the CROs for these activities and for managing the ADME, PK, and tolerability studies.
• Expertise in analyzing biological data and drawing SAR conclusions to help design new set of compounds and new set of ADME, PK studies as needed for continued profiling of project compounds.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. degree.

10 years of relevant experience in pharma/biotech industry.

Salary Range

$154,900.00 - $278,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
