The Immigration Paralegal, working with the DDDI team, will be the first point of contact for prospective clients; will support incoming cases by conducting thorough intakes and a preliminary screening and assessment as to eligibility for our services. The Immigration Paralegal will work closely with the Managing Attorney and will also provide integral support to the attorneys and detention fellows by liaising between them and family members; procuring documents in support of the individuals’ cases; drafting preliminary documents, such as requests for release and letters of support, and submitting record requests.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Immigration Paralegal will support attorneys, the faculty, and students of the Immigrants' Rights Clinic with their filing of a wide variety of immigration forms, as well as drafting and preparing motions, affidavits, briefs, and other legal documents in immigration cases. This will often include initial completion of forms and court documents, to be reviewed by an attorney before filing.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of immigration experience required - Strong written and oral communication skills - Bilingual English/Spanish required
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in removal defense, preferred - Commitment to ensuring that detained and non-detained immigrants have access to counsel and due process - Ability to work independently and as part of a team
