Park Tudor, an independent day school in Indianapolis, Indiana serving students age three through grade 12, seeks an experienced leader and strategic thinker to serve as the Chief Financial and Operations Officer (CFOO). The full-time, exempt position is open immediately.
The Chief Financial and Operations Officer is responsible for the management of all financial and business operations and assets of the School, working in partnership with the Head of School and other senior leadership. A key role of the CFOO is to strategically plan for the future resource and operational needs of the School.
Essential Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Planning
Develop and implement financial strategies that support the School’s mission and goals and are consistent with the organization’s fiscal policy
Responsible for the oversight of all financial operations, including endowment, investments, cash management, financial analysis, budget management, debt compliance, and all tax- exempt financing
Maintain accurate budgets and financial forecasts, prepare periodic financial statements, and report on financial affairs of the School to the Head of School and Board of Directors
Monitor cash flow and manage working capital to ensure financial stability
Monitor all loans and indebtedness
Participate as an active member of the Board Finance Committee; responsible for acting on decisions made by the Finance Committee, including overseeing the implementation of decisions related to investments and management of the School endowment
Responsible for oversight of purchasing policies/procedures and internal control/audit functions in collaboration with the Controller
Approve all agreements concerning financial obligations, such as contracts for products or services and other actions requiring a commitment of financial resources; execute bids, contracts, and leases
Formulate and recommend policies and programs to establish and improve long range financial objectives; research and recommend allocation of resources to optimize financial results while meeting programmatic needs of the School
Maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the School
Build a strong partnership with Head of School to ensure that the educational goals of the School are in sync with the business/fiscal goals of the School
Provide support to the Head of School and the Finance Committee in setting of the succeeding year’s tuition to support the enrollment/reenrollment process
Collaborate with Senior Leadership team on strategic planning
Business Office
Monitor and manage the School’s financial performance
Provide accurate reports and forecasts
Oversee preparation of monthly and annual operating budget for submission through Head of School to Board of Directors; oversee control of budget upon its approval by the Board
Oversee Controller in all aspects of operations
Oversee annual audit of the School’s financial records
Participate on internal 403(b) Plan Committee
Oversee the completion of all applicable tax filings
Human Resources & Compensation
Provide support to the Head of School and Finance Committee in reviewing salary benchmarks and establishing the salary pool
Assist the Head of School with decisions regarding benefits for School personnel
Meet with Health Insurance Broker quarterly to review experience and plan for future improvements to plan design along with Director of Human Resources and Controller
Operations & Facilities Management
Oversee the Director of Buildings & Grounds in all aspects of plant operations, facilities usage and planning, procurement, and general transportation
Plan and monitor both short-and-long term construction, renovation, and maintenance projects to maintain and improve campus facilities and grounds
Oversee facilities maintenance, including preventative maintenance system, capital planning, and state and federal regulations governing school facilities and the overall campus plant
Oversee the Director of Safety and Security in all aspects of campus wide security
Participate as an active member of the Finance Committee and Buildings & Grounds Committee
Technology & Auxiliary Services
In collaboration with the Director of Technology, ensure the development and support of campus technology infrastructure, support for administrative computing systems, and maintenance of all telecommunications systems
Provide oversight to Director of Auxiliary Programs regarding financial and resource allocations
Ensure the effective management of the school store in conjunction with the Wellness Center Director
Oversee the food-service operation and contract with outside vendor
Develop and manage all appropriate sources of non-tuition revenues
Other
Provide support for the Admissions Office in reviewing student contracts annually; serve as liaison with attorney for any changes
Provide support for Development Office in reviewing new gift agreements, and determining appropriate treatment and stewardship of gifts
Represent Park Tudor School at various associations relative to the role of CFOO including INDEX, NBOA and NAIS
Engage in the school community at large
Perform other related duties as assigned
Personal and Professional Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; M.B.A., M.Ed. or related advanced degree preferred
5-7 years of leadership experience in financial management required
Experience at a not-for-profit organization and/or independent school preferred
In-depth understanding of key financial controls, rules and regulations
Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams, mentoring direct reports and working in a team environment
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
Proficiency in core technological competencies
Strong work ethic and high level of integrity
Commitment to professionalism and the respectful treatment of members of all constituencies
