To support this mission, the University of Rochester seeks an Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance.
Reporting to the Chief Diversity Officer, the Assistant Vice President of Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance is responsible for directing programs and policies that ensure the University of Rochester’s compliance with Equal Opportunity, non-discrimination, Affirmative Action, harassment and misconduct laws. This includes overseeing comprehensive campus-wide efforts to reduce discrimination and harassment, ensuring a robust program to report and investigate issues and concerns. The AVP is also accountable for providing oversight to all Equal Opportunity and Title IX team members, providing support and guidance related to professional development and performance.
Focus areas for the Assistant Vice President include:
Oversight of the strategy and execution of investigations of discrimination and harassment reports and complaints, guiding efforts to achieve the University’s objective of reducing or eliminating all forms of prohibited discrimination, harassment and misconduct.
Strategic optimization of the University’s programs and resources related to the protection of Civil Rights, Title IX and Affirmative Action, also ensuring the data collection and reporting related to these areas is compliant and actionable. The AVP will also collaborate with peer institutions, agencies, and subject matter experts to ensure the University’s knowledge and culture surrounding these areas are reflective of best practices.
As the University’s subject matter expert, providing regular updates to the Chief Diversity Officer regarding all aspects of said programs and providing recommendations to address barriers within existing programs and policies.
In collaboration with the Office of Human Resources, development of practices that enhance the University’s recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty, staff, and administration based on Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action statutes.
Qualifications Include:
Juris Doctorate (JD) and a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in Civil Rights, Title IX, compliance, litigation, ethical conduct or a similar field.
Professional experience conducting investigations in a higher education, healthcare, non-profit or another relevant setting, demonstrating the ability to determine and apply the appropriate legal standards.
Experience working directly on Title IX and/or Civil Rights issues, or as an attorney who has worked on matters concerning Title IX, issues of sexual harassment or misconduct, and/or Affirmative Action.
Knowledge of assessment practices involving restorative justice, outcomes-based measures and campus climate surveys.
