Eastern New Mexico University is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Lone Star Conference. We are seeking applicants for our head football athletic trainer position. This position will report directly to the Head Athletic Trainer, work within the Eastern New Mexico Sports Medicine team while also working day-day with the head football coach to ensure the football program is being supported at the optimal level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise any members involved in the football athletic training staff. Included but not limited to student athletic trainer interns, others providing sports medicine related services to student athletes.
Meet with head athletic trainer for updates and communication on the football program.
Work with the head football coach and coaching staff on a daily basis to ensure optimal care for the football student-athletes at ENMU.
Work with and assist the team physician(s) in providing sports medicine coverage for the football program.
Provide/plan for any emergency health care needs for football student-athletes.
Provide treatment, rehabilitation, and preventative plans for football student athletes.
Maintain appropriate medical records for football student athlete’s health care, including but not limited to physical examinations, insurance information and injury evaluation reports.
Communicate with all members of the sports medicine department, as well as football coaches, strength and conditioning coaches and athletic director
Schedule physician appointments as needed throughout the school year
Assist the football coach with travel and administrative duties when necessary
May teach 1-3 courses in Health and Physical Education
Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements (Minimum):
A BS degree in Athletic Training (Master's degree preferred).
NATABOC Certification or eligibility to sit for the exam yielding a passing result prior to starting.
Eligibility for New Mexico state license.
CPR/AED Certification
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work as a member of a sports medicine team
Intercollegiate athletic training experience and teaching experience (preferred)
Must be of good moral character with conduct consistent with the university and state code of conduct.
A valid New Mexico Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment is also required, as well as the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather and road conditions
Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is performed on a 12-month contract
Work is performed during normal business hours but will include evening and weekend hours and requires frequent travel with collegiate teams
Work is performed both inside a non-smoking facility and outdoors; involves extremes of cold and hot plus temperature changes, wet and humid conditions
May include exposure to bloodborne pathogens
Work requires a mixture of prolonged sitting, standing constantly (all day), walking and/or moving frequently. Work may also require the ability to use both upper and lower extremities for manipulation of machines, tools, etc. for patients as needed; may require exertion of up to 50 pounds.
