Position Summary: The university seeks an energetic, collegial, and experienced attorney to serve as Associate General Counsel or Senior Associate General Counsel, depending upon candidate experience and qualifications. The Office of General Counsel provides legal and policy advice relating to all university matters; interprets the constitutional, statutory, regulatory, and policy framework in which the university operates; represents the university in administrative proceedings; and manages outside litigation counsel. The Associate or Senior Associate General Counsel reports to the Deputy General Counsel and will be responsible for providing legal and policy advice in a variety of areas within the university, as well as working with and assisting other members of the General Counsel team. Title and pay will correspond to individual's qualifications and/or years of experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
Three (3) or more years of experience as a law clerk and/or practicing attorney.
Working independently and as a team serving multiple external constituents.
Identifying and resolving potential legal issues.
Interpreting, applying and explaining rules and regulations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with little or no supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience representing institutions of higher education (generally and with respect to student affairs).
Experience representing public entities or large corporate employers.
Experience in the areas of contract drafting/review, litigation, employment law, intellectual property law, administrative law, and immigration law.

Licensed to practice law in the State of Idaho, or ability to be admitted to the Idaho State Bar within one year of starting employment.
