Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to provide independent recommended decisions that include findings of fact and conclusions of law to the NMPRC Commissioners in adjudicated cases involving the regulation of public utilities, telecommunications carriers, and motor carriers.
How does it get done?
Manage and organize complex, multi-discipline, and multi-issue cases. Preside over evidentiary hearings sometimes involving up to 20 parties, 40 witnesses, and thousands of pages of evidence. Write recommended decisions-which are documents similar to court opinions-after reading and analyzing testimony, technical data, and other evidence.

Ideal Candidate
- Experience practicing law in areas directly related to public utility regulation
- Experience as an administrative law judge or hearing officer
- Educational experience in areas directly related to public utility regulation, such as economics, accounting or engineering
- Experience practicing law involving substantial research and writing
Working Conditions
Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualification
Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited school of law and five (5) years of experience in the practice of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA).
