Litigation Coordinator - Birmingham, Alabama
The University of Alabama System is accepting applications for a Litigation Coordinator. This is an on-site position based in Birmingham on the campus of The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Reporting directly to the Chief University Counsel, the Litigation Coordinator provides a wide variety of litigation support to multiple attorneys.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality
- Ability to work under minimum supervision
Education/Training/Experience:
- Undergraduate degree and/or a paralegal certificate
- Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible litigation experience
- Previous experience in employment and healthcare litigation is strongly preferred
- Experience working with litigation management software
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and supervise support staff regarding their litigation support services
- Manage litigation docket, including all calendaring/docketing deadlines
- Coordinate planning, discovery, motion practice, briefs and hearings with attorneys
- Provide assistance with responding to pleadings and discovery and preparing witnesses
- Collect, review, and manage document production for litigation and pre-litigation matters, including responses to Office for Civil Rights complaints
- Draft matter-related correspondence and status reports
- Assist with legal research and third-party subpoena responses
- Develop substantive knowledge and expertise of federal and state rules of civil procedure
- Assist with communication to Risk Management regarding new claims, pending claims, potential liability and closed matters
- Create and/or maintain files and databases
- Provide training and/or technical assistance with internal matter and document management databases
