Natural Resources Specialist I will research noncompliance allegations, and prepares specific materials including penalty calculations, letters, memos, orders, and technical requirements to support routine enforcement actions.
Essential Duties:
Tracks cases from initiation to closure and ensure case status is documented in the Agency database completely and accurately. Interacts with respondents to encourage completion of technical requirements specified in orders.
Interacts with respondents to encourage compliance, settle enforcement actions, and initiate use and completion of Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs) as appropriate.
Provides technical assistance to support final case resolution; prepares cases for administrative or judicial review; coordinates communication between attorneys, investigators, and enforcement staff; and provides testimony at commissioners' agendas, administrative hearings, or civil trials.
Assists the public, regulated community, and others regarding enforcement actions, or agency rules and/or policies.
Perform other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, environmental law, criminal justice, or related field. One (1) year experience in data analysis, environmental quality management, public utilities, business administration, or a related field. Attention to detail is essential for this position
Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year of full-time experience in the field of environmental and/or paralegal activities directly related to the examples of work performed. Some background in a paralegal position would also be of benefit.
