Position: Associate Director, Planned Giving Department: Advancement Division: Major and Planned Gifts Reports to: Director of Major and Planned Gifts Date: November 2022
Summary of Position Purpose: The Associate Director, Planned Giving is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting a mixed portfolio of approximately 150 planned giving prospects. The Associate Director also manages the implementation of the planned giving marketing plan for life income vehicles and bequest arrangements to alumni, parents, and friends in collaboration with the Director of Major and Planned Gifts and the Communications department.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Manages a pool of planned giving prospects in a comprehensive giving structure.
2. Serves as in-house planned giving resource, supporting other fundraisers in their conversations with prospective donors.
3. Remains familiar with tax laws as they relate to philanthropy, especially in the area of life income vehicles and estate planning.
4. Collaborates with the Director to plan in-house and external educational sessions (seminars) on planned giving for staff and others.
5. Works closely with Reunion classes, particularly 50th Reunion and post-50th classes, on reunion giving strategies.
6. Collaborates with the Advancement Services team to ensure accurate reporting of planned gifts.
7. Collaborates with the Donor Relations team to ensure that established procedures for the personalized production of planned giving stewardship letters are followed.
8. Creates gift calculations from PG Calc for constituents as needed.
9. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Major and Planned Gifts.
Qualifications:
5 - 10 years experience in fundraising or related planned giving work.
Experience with financial and/or legal terms, perhaps with a background in estate administration, complex assets, or investment administration.
Enjoys contact with diverse audiences, from alumni/ae and family members of varying ages and backgrounds to attorneys and advisors, in person, by telephone, Zoom, and/or email.
A self-starter’s confidence combined with the ability to juggle multiple projects on various timelines; willingness to learn new databases and software systems.
Respect for the confidential nature of the individual's financial and personal resources and giving aspirations.
A history of self-motivation that shows the ability to prioritize and take initiative on projects and one’s own training.
Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with multiple teams.
Outstanding organizational skills, and oral and written communication skills.
A high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Experience with fundraising databases and PG Calc software is highly desired.
Education: Bachelor's Degree minimum preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Schedule Requirements:
Flexible working hours
Infrequent weekends including Reunion weekend. (4-5 per year on average)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, and work for extended periods with a computer and associated office technologies.
