Mayo Clinic’s Legal Department is seeking highly motivated candidates for the Legal Specialist position. Candidates for this position have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and experience in managing complex health law and regulatory compliance matters independently and in teams.
 
The Legal Specialist is a subject matter expert in multiple areas of law who supports attorneys, serves as a consultant to paralegals and provides guidance to Mayo Clinic’s internal clients. The Legal Specialist in this role will focus on matters involving privacy; information and data security; investigations; employment and research with a focus in state and federal regulations. Other practice areas may vary based on department needs.
 
The Legal Specialist’s responsibilities include:

- Review of Laws, Rules and Regulations
- Updating Policies and Procedures
- Drafting Memos
- Responding to Client Inquiries
- Managing Investigations
- Risk Analysis
- Negotiation
- Process Improvement
- Project Management
- Making Recommendations to Legal Counsel and Internal Clients

*This position is primarily remote work. Individual must live within driving distance to the Mayo Clinic Arizona, Florida, Rochester, or Eau Claire sites.

Qualified candidates will meet one of the following education requirements: a four-year degree and a paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA) certified program; a bachelor’s degree from an ABA-approved paralegal educational program; or a J.D. degree. Five years of relevant legal experience required. A J.D. degree may be substituted for required experience. A bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 years of senior-level paralegal experience, may be substituted for all previously-noted requirements. Completion of PACE (Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam), other professional designations (advanced certification in specific practice area), or a Master's degree preferred. Completion of the Mayo Clinic Project Management Course or equivalent preferred.
