Job Summary
The Associate Financial Planner is part of the Business Development Team that supports our client advisors and works with the Director of Financial Planning Solutions to integrate goal-based financial planning into our sales and service delivery. Clients covered range from mass affluent through ultra high net worth. The Financial Planning area is responsible for developing long-term financial plans for clients and their families. Activities include customizing wealth plans to reflect individual client investment objectives, tax constraints, and trust and estate considerations. Works under direct supervision to support the financial planning team with clients, prospects, projects, analyses, or internal relationships.
Job Accountabilities
- Conduct research and data input on various financial planning scenarios for clients by running variable financial and option analyses, and prepare executive summaries for Lead Financial Planners and market planners to review with clients. The goal is to increase deep and cross sell opportunities using enterprise wide products and services that assist our clients in achieving their goal based planning objectives. Develop and maintain a list of complex goal based planning issues and provide recommended concepts and solutions to resolve them. Items would include executive compensation, life insurance, disability income, business succession planning, retirement, estate planning, tax planning, stock option strategies, and long-term care coverage.
- Demonstrate competency with various planning applications such as MoneyGuide Pro, NaviPlan, Morningstar, BuzEquity, Seismic, SalesForce, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and others. Responsible for completing moderate analyses and interpretation of data, creating executive summaries for clients and prospects with support from planning team.
- Develop financial portfolios based on clients' financial needs and objectives. Uses knowledge of tax and investment strategies, securities, insurance, and pension plans. Develop advisory and consultative sales skills to help retain good client relationships to ensure long-term profitability. Learn product knowledge through training classes, Lead Financial Planner team, and one on one meetings. Advise clients and provide assistance or refer clients to experts.
- Keep current with required follow-up activities on prospects and clients. Demonstrate proficiency using SalesForce, Outlook, and internal applications to track necessary follow-up requirements with clients, prospects, and colleagues. Complete required reports in a timely manner.
- Attend on a continuing basis, sales training seminars and product knowledge workshops. Stay current and update individual knowledge of the capital markets, insurance, finance, tax, and business succession by leveraging online resources and industry periodicals. Establish and grow a solid understanding of all WM products and services and use that knowledge to assist colleagues to understand opportunities to assist clients and prospects achieve their goals.
- Increase the close rate of new complex prospects for financial planning along with deepening relationships with existing clients. Initiate external and internal contacts for development and funding of new business. Grow and maintain relationships within Wealth Management and other business lines to perform joint calling activities and share prospect and customer opportunities. Demonstrate and apply a working knowledge of related bank services and solutions, with the ability to effectively profile clients for the identification of cross-selling opportunities and referrals.
- Demonstrate knowledge of latest legislative rules and regulations. Responsible for coordination with clients or prospects outside advisors such as accountant or attorney relationships.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Finance, Business or related field. Financial Planning preferred. Required
Experience - 1-3 years Banking, Finance or related experience. Required
- 1-3 years Finance / Financial Planning, investment and/or financial client services experience. Preferred
Licenses and Certifications - CFP-Certified Financial Planner within 2 years, Preferred
