Job Title: Consumer Assistant

General Summary: 

The MCC Law Center in Lowell is a community mediation center that provides conflict resolution services, administers consumer protection, individual, community, and trial court mediation services and training, as well as school-based violence prevention programs and Re-Entry and post incarceration mediation programs. The Consumer Assistant will work on the Local Consumer Program (LCP) and handle a wide variety of consumer complaints. The Consumer Assistant will be responsible for handling their own caseload and provide telephone advocacy to those seeking assistance. 

Essential Job Duties:

• Responsible for a caseload of consumer complaints received from the Attorney General's Office, typically between 25 and 30 cases at any given time.
• Conduct telephone advocacy to resolve individual consumer complaints.
• Keep detailed case notes immediately and contemporaneously as each case progresses.
• Write clear and concise case notes so that others can understand the status of the case at any given time.
• Provide consumer information, resources, education and assistance to the public, referrals to legal aid resources and/or governmental agencies.
• Participate in regular training sessions on mediation and Law Center policies and procedures.
• Answer incoming phone calls to the Law Center and take detailed messages.
• Process Law Center regular mail and email according to prescribed guidelines.
• Update the Law Center's OnBase database of assigned cases daily
• Check for newly assigned cases every work day.
• Regularly review all cases with supervisor and/or assigned mentor.
• Assist in the drafting of specialized letters to Consumers or Businesses 
• Research business background and applicable local, state and federal laws for each case.
• Maintain working knowledge of all Law Center programs
• Conduct introductory calls to consumers and businesses.
• Send introductory letters to consumers and businesses.
• Participate in outreach activities as needed.
• Other duties as required

• Associate's Degree
• Experience with equity-minded work and working with individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
• Database experience
• Customer service or related position working with the public
• Ability to work independently
• Bilingual skills, a plus 

This is a grant-funded, part-time non-benefited, non-unit position. The employee will be renewed on an annual yearly basis, provided sufficient grant funding. The position runs through June, as funding permits. 

Salary Range: $17.25 per hour in accordance with Middlesex Community College's Part-Time Wage Schedule

Location: Primarily Lowell Campus, with occasional travel to Bedford Campus as needed. 

Hours: 9 hours per week
