DescriptionThe Stanford University Office of the General Counsel and Stanford Management Company (SMC) are seeking qualified candidates to provide legal support to the investment and operations teams at SMC. SMC is the fiduciary for the $30 billion Merged Pool, which comprises the substantial majority of Stanford's investable assets. Annual payouts from the Merged Pool support teaching, learning, and research across a wide variety of disciplines. More information about SMC can be found at
https://smc.stanford.edu. This position will report to the General Counsel of the University with day-to-day direction from Senior University Counsel at SMC.
Core Duties:
-
Reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements and other documents relating to domestic and foreign private investment funds, separately managed accounts, and coinvestment vehicles.

Monitoring and advising on domestic and foreign legal, regulatory, and compliance matters relating to investment matters.

Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements, including non-disclosure agreements, vendor contracts, consulting agreements, and engagement letters.

Working with outside counsel, investment professionals, and members of the investment operations team to address other legal, regulatory, and business issues.
Other duties may be assigned.QualificationsEducation & Experience:

Law degree from an accredited law school. At least three years of relevant experience in investment-related matters and prior work at a nationally recognized law firm or in-house experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The primary qualification for this position is significant experience and demonstrated expertise in investor-side review and negotiation of investment fund agreements.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment with internal and external contacts at all levels.

Familiarity with regulatory and compliance issues associated with investment-related activities.

Excellence in academic credentials, judgment, writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Relationship builder with proven track record of providing the highest quality client service.

Highest level of professionalism and integrity.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Qualified individuals will be a member of the California State Bar or able to become one promptly.
