About Us: We make software that anyone can mold and shape to take on every challenge — from taking personal notes to running large companies. We've been building together since 2016 and are trusted by customers including Nike, Airbnb, Slack, Samsung, and more. We're excited to be growing a team as diverse and creative as the millions of people we reach worldwide, and a company where everyone can thrive. About The Role: Providing software that can be molded to fit an incredible variety of uses and applications to our expanding customer base presents unique legal opportunities. As our Lead Commercial Counsel, you would be one of the first members of Notion’s Legal Team. You will have the chance to build the commercial legal foundation to help Notion meet its ambitious goals. We are looking for a team member who is excited about our passionate user base and is interested in joining a dedicated cross-functional team that engages with our customers and vendors. This role will be based in our San Francisco office. However, under current circumstances, remote work is being accommodated in order to comply with safety measures.
What You'll Do: - Own broad responsibility for Notion’s commercial legal matters and serve as the primary point of contact for inbound and outbound commercial contracting issues
- Provide practical day-to-day and strategic advice to the sales, marketing, and success teams
- Develop and implement efficiencies in the self-service and the commercial negotiation processes and contract lifecycle management in collaboration with sales and finance team leadership
- Develop and revise contract templates as necessary, based on changes in the product offerings, organization, and/or applicable law
- Develop education, information, and training materials for the sales organization on relevant topics such as the contracting process, key contract issues, data privacy, and legal compliance in the sales and contracting processes
- Provide strategic advice on design, implementation, and evolution of commercial partnership programs and associated agreements
- Collaborate cross-functionally across the organization to ensure agreements are consistent with internal policies and processes
- Advise internal clients regarding legal issues including identifying, managing, and communicating risks and opportunities in commercial transactions
- Structure, draft, and build processes for the negotiation of a broad range of inbound supplier agreements including software and SaaS, professional services and outsourcing, IT infrastructure, and marketing and advertising technology
- Ability to manage external and internal resources to help with the execution of all of matters above
