Requirements The HJA Attorney for the Perinatal Legal Assistance & Well-being (LAW) Project will join the Health Justice Alliance (HJA), a medical-legal partnership (MLP) between Georgetown Law Center and Georgetown University Medical Center, which includes a range of inter-professional education, service, and research initiatives designed to address health and justice disparities faced by vulnerable communities. The position is being created as part of an expansion by HJA of its MLP work with Women's and Infants' Services (WIS) at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The HJA Attorney will play a key role in helping design and implement the MLP at WIS during the first 3-6 months and thereafter will be primarily responsible for providing direct legal services to pregnant mothers and newborns, fostering new clinical learning opportunities for law and medical students coordinating training and feedback with healthcare providers, engaging in community outreach and education, and contributing to the data collection and research for the MLP. Work Interactions The HJA Attorney will collaborate closely with HJA's Faculty Director, Director of Operations, and Director of Research and Evaluation to design and build the MLP, as well as with the attorneys in HJA's Cancer LAW Project, who will provide support and assist with direct legal services. The HJA Attorney will report directly to the Faculty Director of the HJA. No direct reports to this position are anticipated. The HJA Attorney will supervise and mentor Georgetown students interested in the MLP model and oversee graduate fellows. Interactions with the HJA Law Clinic as part of efforts to identify legal cases and serve as a consultant for students is also envisioned. The HJA Attorney will have a significant role in ensuring that the program is responsive to the needs of perinatal patients, WIS leadership, and the Director of the Safe Babies Safe Moms Initiative with MedStar Health.
