Overview: The Construction Counsel will report to the Director, Construction Counsel (Katerra East), and support the Katerra East team in the preparation, review, negotiation and execution of prime construction, subcontract, architecture, building engineering, materials supply and other vendor contracts. This candidate will be a skilled and confident drafter of legal contracts, be motivated by the varied demands of a highly dynamic growth business and possess intellectual curiosity about the complex legal and commercial issues involved in both owner-facing and subcontractor-facing contracts in the design and construction space. Experience: The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: - Licensed attorney in New Jersey.
- Juris Doctorate from top tier school preferred.
- 3+ years handling commercial contracts – construction industry experience is preferred, but not essential.
- Sufficient experience and confidence to advise business leaders on contract matters and to negotiate directly with partner-level counsel to customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex documents quickly.
- Ability to respond creatively to drafting and negotiation challenges, with focus on driving to efficient solution.
- Ability to multitask and continuously prioritize and reprioritize critical actions.
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated, and able to work independently and under time pressure.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Eager, adept, and concise communicator; the type of person who will first call, and then email, and then call again, until the matter is done.
