Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University Office of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel (OGC) is seeking a 2015, 2016, or 2017 graduate of the George Washington University Law School for the position of Attorney Fellow. This is a two-year position that will begin in September 2017 and end in September 2019.
The successful candidate will join a team of lawyers providing legal and strategic advice to the university and will assist with a variety of legal and policy issues that confront a large urban teaching and research institution. The Attorney Fellow’s work will include contract review and drafting, student and academic matters, litigation, and regulatory compliance. Assignments may also include issues related to health law, intellectual property and technology transfer, business and real estate, and employment and labor law.
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills are required. A ranking in the top third of the class and journal membership is preferred. Bar membership is not required at the start of the position, but the successful candidate must have taken the bar examination prior to September 2017. The ability to learn new legal principles, manage a sizeable volume of work and deadlines, and respond to the needs of various client representatives is key. The successful candidate will be a diligent and hard worker, and a thinker who thrives in and can contribute to the office’s fast-paced, collegial team environment.
The Attorney Fellow will receive assignments and take direction from OGC attorneys. General supervision will be provided by one or two designated OGC attorneys.

Drafts and reviews University agreements/contracts, including contracts for the provision of procurement of goods and services, leases, research and employment agreements under the supervision of more senior attorneys.,
Provides legal research, and assistance on non-litigation issues relating to students, faculty and staff.,
Provides legal advice and assistance to the GW community on commercial and real estate matters, employment and labor law, health law, intellectual property and technology transfer matters, litigation, and regulatory compliance.
The incumbent generally performs job duties in a normal business office environment. This involves working while sitting at a desk for extended periods of time. The job also includes significant event planning and execution, which requires a significant level of physical activity, including standing, walking, and occasionally lifting office supply items that may weigh up to 20 pounds. Additionally, the incumbent may be required to attend meetings in other offices, or deliver and/or retrieve information from other offices around campus.The ability to operate basic office equipment such as personal computers, duplicating machines, fax machines and standard office telephones may also be required.
A ranking in the top third of the class and journal membership is preferred.
Juris Doctorate degree from accredited institution. Admission to a state bar is not required at commencement of the fellowship, but the successful candidate must sit for a bar exam and be eligible for admission to the District of Columbia Bar by a date provided by the Office of General Counsel.
